Ruth y Maxi

Hola, I’m Ruth.  No speak español, only Spanglish.  Spanish, English … Spanglish!

La letra H es silencioso.  Hola, meaning hello, is pronunciado /o-la/ as if the H wasn’t even there!

1.41.5

This is mi amiga, Maxi.  Maxi es peruana, from Perú, but she lives en Nerja, near Málaga, en el sur de España.

Nerja.  Pronunciar this town /ner-ha/.

I don’t live in Nerja.  I live en Northumberland, en el norte de Inglaterra.

Norte = North.  Pronunciar this word /nor-tay/.  The naughty north?

I come to Nerja every year for mis vacaciones.  I stay en Los Apartamentos Rosas with mi familia.

People who have learned French sometimes pronunciar “en” like /on/.  En español the word rhymes with Den and Jen at number ten.

We normalmente stay in un hotel called Los Apartamentos Rosas.  This is where Maxi works, and she has been mi amiga de vacaciones every time I have visitado.

1.8

Visitado = I have visited. En español the –ed es normalmente representado with the letters –ado or –ido: comentado, visitado, decidido = commented, visited, decided.  Easy!

Your turn: Te toca

Grab a scrap of papel, and scribble down some español personalizado.  Follow the examples, los ejemplos /e-hem-plos/.  If you don’t know how to say it en español, you can guess, inventar, or say it en inglés!  It’s that easy!

1.9

1. Write your friends’ names

Eg. Male friends: mi amigo John y mi amigo Al.

Female friends: mi amiga Ariane y mi amiga Pippa.

2. Write where you live

1.61.10

Eg. I live en Brighton en el sur de Inglaterra.

I live en York en el norte de Inglaterra.

(Remember how to say “en”!)

1.7

3. Say who’s in your family

Eg. En mi familia there is Lee, Elise, Izzy y me!

4. Say where you have visited and what you have decided to do

Eg. I have visitado mi amiga and I have decidido to go and buy una botella de vino.
